The fast bowler Set to Play a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Pat Cummins bowling

The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chief selector George Bailey has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in this winter's England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that Cummins might be unavailable due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Earlier indications from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the Test matches set to start on November 21 in the WACA.

He revealed that the captain is progressing and felt positive about his chances of taking part.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, not only the physical problem, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he will feature a significant role. With luck from the opening match. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Injury History

The captain missed the white-ball matches against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after examinations confirmed a stress reaction in his back.

There is a track record of spinal problems, with setbacks in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of three Australian summers in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the Ashes.

The selector indicated that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, veteran batsman Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from Australia's squad for their ODI contests against the subcontinent side as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "ideally positioned to be ready to bowl."

"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the starting games anyway. How he handles the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
